Cosplay Team Profile
Sailor Jamboree
Take 100 men and women, each with their specialties- Singing, Acrobatics, Sewing, Acting & Dancing- with a love of Sailor Moon... put them together as a production team with one of the songs from the Sailor Moon Musicals (Sera-Myu)... What do you get? You get this group, administratively based in Southern California.
Internationally known, having their team interviewed for both American & Japanese Television programs and print media, they perform production numbers from Sera-Myu for U.S. Audiences in Cosplay Competitions. Since 2001, they have been the guests of honor at AnimeNorth in Toronto, Ontario, and they make a few appearances in Tokyo. How's that for globetrotting!
They are inspired by both the Musicals and the great Japanese Cosplay to perform their best. The costumes used variated from the Super S anime version to a special hybrid design of the anime, manga and the musicals to the full Sailor Moon S Musical version for the 2001 season.
As per Cosplay tradition, the members make and wear their own costumes. For the 2001 Season, the reproductions of the Sailor Moon S Musical costumes were done by Tristen Citrine, who served then as Costume Coordinator for the group. And like other Cosplay Groups, Sailor Jamboree operates at a loss- none of the members profited from the operations except when they sold their individual costumes.
What's In The Name Sailor Jamboree?
This is taken from their website... to where you can understand.
OKAY... so it's a kinda corny sounding name, but it has a story behind it! The "Sailor JAM-Boree" name's origin is taken from the North American TV series of "Sailor Moon". In one of the earlier episodes, the villain named Zoisite said "I didn't come here to see no Sailor Jamboree..." when she saw that all the scouts/senshi gathered where she was and more were on their way.
Chrissy (Co-founder and VP) thought up of using this name for our group since technically we are a large gathering of Sailor Senshi -The largest formal performing group perhaps in the world. And we also use music and dancing for our skits most of the time, so that's where the JAM comes in. Chrissy and I both thought it was a cute and funny however a very "inside" joke, type of name that would be original and notable.
So what was thought of as an "Inside Joke" back then- became the Original Sailor Moon Musical Cosplay group here in the U.S. Without them... we would never have seen parts of the musicals.
Group Update...
They've changed domains, as you can see below... and a new member has been added since last year. AznAphrodite, who is a very good cosplayer, has just been added as an active profile on the team with the designation of Sailor Venus- but she's done more than just Minako-chan.
AznAphrodite has given us permission to get some new pics for their gallery area here, which is a big help for us- so we're going to pull some magic for her here. Look for her Solo Cosplay website in the LINKS PAGE.
