Chapter 2 - Dreams bring danger
It was a peaceful day. The grass was green, the sun shone brightly, and a gentle breeze blew across the land. A group of 5 young girls, one in a gown of white while the other 4 wore gowns of various colors, sat in a grassy field, staring at a blue and green planet just peaking over the horizon. Then the scene suddenly changes. The sky is dark, and an horrendous creature is attacking the palace that stood in the background. Four of those girls were in different outfits, same colors as the gowns they wore. They called forth various types of elemental energy, then threw it at the creature. The scene changed yet again, showing the same field, barren, burned ground replacing the green grass that was once there. Bodies lay everywhere, including those of the four girls. A scream is then heard.
Sandra suddenly woke up, covered in a cold sweat, and looked at her alarm clock. It was 0430, 4:30 am in civilian time. She sat up as far as she could in her small rack, trying to get that dream out of her head. Putting her head in her hands, she whispered "Not that dream again. It seems like something I would see in Sailormoon. But why did it feel so...real?" Knowing she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep, she got up and began to get ready for the day.
In one small shop, a young man sat looking at technical manuals, with a grin on his face. But this was no ordinary grin. It was a grin saying that he was up to something. "I'm going to get rid of her before she awakens and threatens my plans. And I know just how to do it." he said, rubbing his hands together. Putting the manuals away, he locked up his shop and headed toward a specific electrical panel.
Fully dressed in a pair of dark blue coveralls, Sandra walks past the training office an hour later, and begins to go down the ladderwell next to the office. Suddenly, everything goes dark. She stops halfway down the ladderwell and looks around. "What the heck is going on here?" she mutters before she feels someone shove her down the rest of the way down. She lets out a short gasp as she falls, and lands with a crunch at the bottom. She is knocked out immediately.
In the training office, a lone woman sits at a computer. Her hair, a beautiful strawberry blonde, was done up in an intricate braid that ended just above her collar. From her desk, which faced the open door, she got a glance of Sandra as she walked by. A smile came to her face. 'I am glad that you are happy and safe. And I mean to keep it that way.' she thought to herself. It was right after Sandra had passed when the lights went out. Noting that the emergency lights were on, she was about to put in a troublecall when she heard a gasp followed by tumbling and a very loud thump. Running out, she headed to the ladderwell, and saw Sandra lying down there, her eyes closed.
As she was standing there, what appeared to be a young girl, with black hair to her chin, and a taller woman with her blonde hair cropped short, walked by. Noticing their friend standing there, they walked over to her. The blonde haired woman put her hand on her shoulder. "Vicky?" she asked, "You alright? Looks like you're in quite a daze." Hearing them, she just pointed to the bottom of the ladder. Both got a look and gasped. "Brandie, go and try to help her as much as you can." the blonde haired woman said. "I'll go down there and ward off any prying eyes. Vicky, you go call medical." Everyone, serious looks appearing on their faces, nodded their heads. Vicky headed to her office while the young looking girl and blonde haired woman went down the ladderwell. The blonde haired woman, her eyes full of worry and anger to who did this, told the sailors who passed by to keep their distance. Brandie kneeled down next to Sandra. She began to examine her. What she found made her wince. Vicky then came back, and saw the look on her comrade's face. "How bad is she, Bran?" she asked.
"VERY bad." she replied, and informed the two keeping watch over her of the serious injuries she found. She then turned back to Sandra. "I'll see what I can do before my friends in medical get here." She closed her eyes and laid her hands on the fallen young woman whom she had sworn to protect.
Amy is in her berthing, getting dressed for the day, when she hears an announcement come on, announcing a medical emergency just outside of the training office. 'Somebody probably just slipped down the ladder.' she thought as she finished dressing and began to brush her hair. She didn't know how right she was.
A few short minutes later, 4 members of the security force arrived on the scene. The one female of the bunch surveyed the situation. She saw who was on the ground, and her eyes flashed with hurt and anger. Then spotting her comrades, she went to the other 3 members of the group and kept their gaze away from the victim long enough for Brandie to finish up what she had been doing. Once they were clear of Sandra, she informed the group that she would talk to the people who found the victim then walked over to her friends. "Excuse me, petty officers." she said in a pseudo-stern voice.
Toni looked at her. "Can we help you, petty officer Meiou?"
Meiou nodded her head. "I need to talk to all of you about what happened here. Please, come with me." The 3 other woman walked with Meiou until they were out of everyone's earshot.
"What happened, you guys?" she asked them. Vicky then filled Meiou in on what had happened from her point of view.
Meiou nodded her head. "I see." she said. "And the lights came on right after you saw her?"
"That's right, Adrienne." Vicky said. "Then these two came up." she continued, motioning towards her two comrades.
Adrienne thought hard for a moment. "So our enemy is an electrician, as he or she had access to an electrical or lighting panel somewhere on this ship. I'll definitely check into this." She then turned to Brandie. "Were you able to help her at all, Bran?"
She nodded. "A bit. I made it so her legs were not broken, as they both were, and did a little more. Enough to not be questioned by anyone." Brandie then smiled. "She's going to be just fine. And I'll make sure to volunteer to keep an eye on her from medical."
The others smiled at this. "Thanks." Toni said.
Walking down that same passageway was Amy, who looked ready for another long workday. In her rush, she spotted her friend Victoria, from training, standing with 3 other sailors. One of which she recognized as a member of security. Seeing the look on her friend's face, she called out to her.
"Good morning, Vicky." she said. "Why the worried look? Something wrong?"
The 4 women stopped talking when Amy approached. Vicky looked at her friend, who was also one of the ones she swore to protect. "Morning." she replied. "But I wouldn't exactly call it 'good'. Let's just say that someone we both know had a little accident and fell down the stairs."
Amy frowned. "Someone we both know?" she asked, before it clicked in her mind. "Sandra?" she asked in a whisper. Vicky slowly nodded her head. Amy's face went ashen.
At that moment, one of the medical crew, who had arrived shortly after security, called out to Brandie. Looking over, she saw that Sandra had been placed in a stretcher and they were moving out. Bran then looked at the group. "I'm going to help them out. I'll keep you informed." She said, then left the group to help take Sandra to medical.
Amy got a glimpse of Sandra being rushed out. Amy's face was still white and she just stood there, speechless. She then looked up at the security woman. "Are you sure it was an accident?" she asked Adrienne.
Adrienne looked at Amy. "We're not sure. We will be covering every possibility available. You are a close friend of the hers?" she asked. Amy replied that Sandra was indeed her best friend. Adrienne then looked at Vicky, who nodded her head, then her gaze landed back on Amy. "We'll keep you informed as to what we find out, as you are her closest friend on this ship. How can we get ahold of you, Petty officer Perkins?"
Amy gave them the number to her division office, her workspace, and Sandra's divisional office as well. "Thank you. We'll keep in touch." Adrienne told the young girl.
"I appreciate it, Petty Officer Meiou." Amy responded. "I've got to get to work now. Talk to you later, Vicky." she said glumly, then walked away towards her workspace. On her way there, she thought to herself. 'I sure hope it was an accident. Sandra can be clumsy at times. Why would anyone want to hurt her? She's innocent. She's never wronged anyone, let alone bad enough to want to hurt her.' As she rounded a corner, her thoughts turned to another subject. 'That security officer. Petty Officer Meiou. She has the same last name as Setsuna-san. And she looked a little like her, as well. Could this all be coincidence, so many people on the TR looking like the Senshi? Or is this a part of something larger than we can even imagine?'
Meanwhile, the 3 young women watched the sad woman leave. "She is definitely one of them." Adrienne said. "You can tell, for her concern for Sandra. And considering who she is, she'll go over the info we gave over and over in her head, until she figures it out."
Toni and Vicky hardily agreed. They were interrupted once again by a member of the security force Adrienne was with. He informed her that they were finished here and to go back to the security office and tell them of her findings. She nodded her head, then looked at her friends. "Thank you for your help, petty officers. I'll call you if we need anything further." she said in her pseudo-stern voice. Winking at them, she left with the rest of her team.
Toni and Vicky looked at each other. "Wanna head to breakfast?" Toni asked her companion. Vicky gave a small smile. "Sure." she replied. The two of them then headed off to the messdecks.
Around 2030, 8:30pm in civilian time, Amy sat on the forward mess decks, and awaited the new friends she had made just the day before. Her mind still roamed around the events of that morning. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't hear her friends arrive, one by one.
15 minutes later, they had all arrived, and Amy had yet to notice them. Finally, Erin tapped her on the shoulder. "Hello. Earth to Ami-chan. Come in, Ami-chan." she said into Amy's ear, which broke the state that she had been in. She looked around and saw that everyone was there.
"Gomen, minna." she said, apologizing to the group. "My mind is not all here right now."
"We couldn't help but notice." Brianna said. "What has got you so out of it?" she asked at the same time that Stephanie asked what was taking Sandra so long to arrive.
Amy looked at the group. "You mean you didn't hear?" she asked incredulously. All shook their heads, saying that they hadn't.
"Well," Amy started off, "It turns out that she..."
Brianna's eyes opened wide at a sudden thought. "Wait a sec." she said, stopping Amy in mid-sentence and looked at her straight in the eye. "She was that medical emergency this morning, wasn't she? Falling down a ladderwell. Am I right?"
Everyone, including Amy, looked at her. Then everyone turned their gaze back at Amy, who nodded her head. "How did you know, Rei-chan? Have a vision?" she asked rhetorically.
Brianna just looked at the group. "I suppose you could call it that. To be more specific, it was a dream I had last night." They all looked at her in wonder, then the chatter of how cool that was began. The chatter ended about a minute later, when Erin asked how Sandra was. The group then began to talk about that subject for the rest of the evening.
In the shadows, a lone security member stood watching the group of girls. If one looked closely enough, one would see the thoughtful yet sad expression on her face. 'I sure wish that we won't have to waken you all. You look so happy being normal young people. We will keep you happy and unknowing as much as we can. But we can only do so much. Soon, all of you will be in way over your heads. But not yet. Not yet.' She continued to stand there and watched as the group dispersed a few hours later.
