Author's Note- I've created quite a few characters, both with friends and by myself, for my cosplay fanfiction stories- but Chris has become a big favorite outside of myself as a woman, since both Chris and my name can be used by both genders. This story features both of us in a brand new setting, and offers some big changes for our lives as it also forms the basis for a new series.
A Brand New Family For Chris
By Dale-chan
Christina Morgan just got back from Summer Camp for the last year, knowing that she couldn't go back next year because she was entering junior high school in Spokane this year. She was saddened because of this... and knew that the friends she made there could never be seen again.
She met a wonderful pair of sisters named Angela and Sandra Brown, who finished their sophomore year in high school and were spending the summer as camp counselors, and got to know them- literally.
She found out that they had a love for something called anime, but it was in the end that she couldn't find out what it meant- because they had to rush home due to an illness in their family. She wished that she could have got to know them better, and that included getting their address so that she could write them.
Before they left, though, Chris actually got to see the sisters together and made mental notes about both of them. Sandra stood 5ft. tall with the fairest of complexions while Angela was 5in. taller than her younger sister. Both had deep blue eyes and rich blonde hair that tumbled all the way down to their buns- but Sandra wore her differently than her older sis, who had just a red hair bow in hers. Sandra had it styled up in 2 pigtails with hairballs at their tops... which was unusual, even for her.
She also met a young woman named Dale Stevens because she was her cabin leader- and this time, she didn't have to rush home because someone in her family was ill. So she got to know more about her than she did about Sandra and Angela. Dale was just entering high school and also into anime- and when Chris asked about it, she said that it was animation created in Japan. This intrigued the young woman to no end... but she spent the better part of the conversations looking over her new friend. Dale was 5ft. 5in. tall and 125lbs. She had black hair that stretched all the way to her buns and eyes that were deep and mysterious. It made her, as Chris could see, into an oriental goddess.
For all it was worth, Chris was almost a nobody in the eyes of all the people present. She was 4ft. 9in. tall and 90lbs. with brown hair that fell considerably short of her shoulders and deep blue eyes. She tried to get people to notice her... but no one would because everyone had their own circles of friends- and no one would befriend her. She was about ready to go e-mail her parents to pick her up and take her home when Dale finally took notice of her- and spent as much time as she could with this young woman. They exchanged addresses with each other so that they could write, and left camp the best of distant friends. This was only 2 weeks ago.
But all that was about to change- and for the better... 2 moving vans came into the neighborhood, with 2 families ready to befriend Chris and give her all the affection she needs in her life.
Dale was with the first moving van that arrived, as her family bought the home next door to Chris'. When the possibility of moving was raised in her family, the stately manor that was next door to her home was already up for sale and Dale remembered her almost immediately. She asked her parents if they could move there... and it was accepted immediately.
So all of their possessions were there within 1 day of the sale and Dale was out smelling the fresh air when she saw Chris sitting on the front steps of her home, her head in her hands and her face wearing a solemn frown. She knew Chris was lonely- because all of the houses were owned by couples, and none of them had children.
Walking over to her home Dale asked, "Why are you wearing a frown when you should be thinking about what you want to do on this day?"
"It's because there's no one here that's my age to do anything with," Chris replied, "And that's what I'm sad about."
"Well," Dale replied, "do you remember the times you spent with an oriental goddess? Look up and gaze on her face again."
When she didn't, Dale grasped her chin and did it for her... and once Chris' eyes were on her face, her frown instantly changed into a bright smile and she leaped into her arms. "Oh, I didn't know you were coming to visit," she said in a cheerful voice.
"I didn't come to visit, Kurisu-chan," Dale replied, "I'm moving into the mansion next door and I saw you was down in the dumps. I figured I'd come over and cheer you up. Now, what say we do some shopping and get your mind off of what I consider is your biggest threat." But before she got up, Chris asked, "What did you call me?"
"Kurisu-chan," Dale replied, "It's your name spoken in Japanese. And the ending is indicative of 'friend' in the same language... and I really want to be your friend, Kurisu-chan." "I want you as my friend, Dale," she replied. They then took off for a day of shopping- and a day of getting to know each other.
After their departure, the 2nd. moving van came into the neighborhood and stopped across from Chris' residence with a minivan following it, parking in the driveway. A family of 5 then exited the minivan... and 2 girls looked around.
"I think we'll have a good life here in this neighborhood," Sandra said.
Dale got permission from her wealthy father to use one of their credit cards to take Chris on a shopping spree, since she saw not much in the terms of clothes on her... and the first thing she needed was some flip-flops so that she could go into the stores. From what Dale surmised, Chris' parents always sent her to camp so that they wouldn't hear her requests for, as they so put it, "clothes and toys and all that nonsense other parents buy their children." "Sometimes I even wonder why they believe that it's all nonsense," Chris told her.
"Sometimes parents are too greedy," Dale replied, "But the greatest wealth in the world happens to be the children. Sometimes, I wish I had a sister that I could keep secrets with... then we could be really close with each other."
"Sometimes I think my parents want me dead," Chris replied, "There are times when I wish that I could just leave my family because of all the beatings they did to me and all of the sorrow they gave me."
"Perhaps you can," her new friend replied, "Why hasn't Child Protective Services been notified of the abuse they've been causing you."
"Oh, they've been notified dozens of times by my neighbors," Chris said, "It's just that my parents have bought CPS's protection- and in return, they've not investigated all of the incidents."
"Then maybe it's time we did what they've been not doing in return," Dale replied, "I can ask my father for some assistance in dealing the justice you need."
Sandra and Angela were walking around in their new neighborhood, asking the residents about what all has been happening in there.
"Well," one couple told them, "there's a family that lives across from you that all of us have called CPS about because we hear screams in their home. But no one's ever come and taken their child from them- for the screams are from the girl."
"The girl?" Sandy asked.
"The couple has a lovely daughter named Chris," the man replied, "Yet they don't treat her as kindly as they treat us. She wears torn clothes and no shoes when she goes to school- and when we try to buy what she needs, they take it all back and keep the money while saying she needs to eat."
"Yet we see her as she leaves for school- and she's just skin and bones," the woman said, "For all that matters, we think that they're so greedy that they want their daughter to die."
"Maybe it's time we changed that, onii-chan," Angela replied, recieving a nod from Sandra. Giving their thanks to the couple for the information as they left Angela added, "Chris was the girl we met at summer camp, ne Sandora-chan?"
"Hai, Anjera-chan," she replied, "From what we saw, she was sad while at camp."
"Perhaps it's time we changed it for her," Angela replied as they were walking home.
Dale and Chris arrived back at the manor after a full day of shopping for her new friend and went straight to Dale's father.
"You believe that Chris' parents bribed CPS Agents to keep them silent?" he asked, "Now that seems to be the line of reasoning here, because she's got no muscle except around the legs- and add to it that she's wearing hand-me-downs as clothes. I think that there's enough to go to another county and ask for an immediate investigation of Spokane County's CPS employees- or come right to it, we should take her to them and let them see for themselves what's happening to her."
"I think that she should stay here, dad," Dale replied, "so that she'll be safe from her parents while they're investigating."
"I agree with our daughter," Dale's mother said when she entered, "Chris should stay in one of our rooms here while we find out the truth about her family."
"Then that's what will happen," the father replied as he buzzed for the butler- who appeared in record time. "Please get Dale's new belongings set in one of the guest rooms and have the kitchen staff prepare dinner."
Chris couldn't believe her eyes as she stepped into the brightly colored room.
She had just finished dinner- to which the family that hosted her encouraged Chris to eat as much as she could hold- and she wanted to go and sleep because she ate so much that she was tired. But the thought of sleeping was torn right from her mind when she saw the room her hosts graciously gave her.
"Oh this is so incredible... I don't ever want to lose sight of this," she thought, "This family is the best - I only wish that when all this is over, they could be my family."
In her own room, Dale was looking over two costumes on dummies in the corner. Both were mini-skirted one piece outfits with gloves, boot covers and specially designed jewelry attachments- one was mostly colored in red with two bows in violet, while the other had mostly dark blue with light blue bows.
She had a bright smile on her face as she gazed at these two beautiful outfits and thought, "I was surprised when Chris bought clothes and stuff with a lot of blue in them... and I hope that she will wear Sailor Mercury's outfit with pride."
Both girls then went to sleep feeling very happy.
The next day, Sandra and Angela were out for their morning run when they saw a limousine leave the mansion across the street and head for downtown. "If they've heard so much about their neighbors as we have," Angela said, "I only hope that they're headed to CPS and put an end to the ways of Chris' family- and maybe steal her from under their noses."
"You're right there, Anjera-chan," Sandy replied with a bright smile on her face. They didn't know how right they were when they walked over to Chris' house and knocked on the door.
"Chris was gone last night," her mother said with a cheerful smile, "She stayed over at a friend's house and she's expected to be back later today." But the smile the mother wore was forced... for she didn't know where her daughter was, and both her and her husband were ready to kill her for not asking permission to do that.
"Thank you, ma'am," Angela said in return as both girls nodded their heads and took their leave. Once inside their house, she was displaying a real smile as she said, "I can bet that Chris found someone to give her sanctuary- and her parents are angered about it."
"If she's headed to CPS now," Sandy replied with an ear-to-ear grin on her face, "her parents are in hot water... the kind that burns your skin off. And this time, they can't bribe their way out from it."
Oh, how right they were. For at that moment in the offices of Child Protective Services, the agents there looked at Chris... in her thread-bare clothes, no shoes and looking like a near skeleton. "Man," agent Mason Roberts said, "I can't believe we accepted all that money from this girl's parents for not investigating all of the calls in that one household... for she looks like she could die at any minute."
"Tell me about it," agent Rick Moorehouse said, "She looks like the Grim Reaper... and we fell for all of the jive her parents were telling us, as well as all of the money they were paying us."
"All right, men," the chief, Norton Cass, told his men, "Why are we sitting around and gawking like... ai yi yi, what in blazes is that?"
"Remember all the calls we got on a girl named Chris Morgan?" Mason asked him. Once Norton nodded, the agent then said, "This is Chris Morgan."
"Have you 2 been talking about her all this time?" Norton asked.
"Yep," Rick said, "and we were also talking about all of the money we got from her parents to not investigate all the reports we got from her neighbors."
Turning to Dale and her father, Norton asked how they found out about her. "It was my daughter who found her sitting on the steps of her home," the man replied, "and she brought her over. When we had dinner that night, we encouraged Chris to eat as much as she could because we found out, from the summer camp, that her parents told them never to feed her."
"Talk about torturing their own daughter," Mason said, "And we were part of that torture."
"We've now got overwhelming evidence of bribery of state officials, child neglect and child abuse," Norton said, "We take this to Superior Court and family court judges now and get the warrants. Mr. Stevens, would you follow us to the county courthouse and bring your daughter and the young woman with you?"
"You've got to be joking, Mr. Cass," Judge Stone told him, "This young woman is the subject of a whole file of reports that were not investigated?"
"We're not joking, your honor," Norton replied, "We now have overwhelming proof that the Morgans were abusing their daughter and bribing my agents to keep their noses out... and the proof is in the appearance of their child."
"Who brought this girl to your final attention?" the judge asked, and it was then that Dale's father stood up.
"Robert Stevens for the displaced child, your honor," he said.
"You finally helped her out without compensation, Mr. Stevens?" the judge asked, recieving a nod as reply before adding, "I'm concurring with the associates from Child Protective Services and signing warrants for the arrests of Louis and Michelle Morgan, the charges being bribery of state officials, neglect of a minor child and abuse of a minor child. I'm also ordering CPS to pay the Stevens Family for the minor's clothing purchases and that the Stevens Family be assigned as the foster family of record for the minor child."
"Thank you, your honor," Mr. Stevens replied.
Chris and Dale watched from the tinted windows of the limousine later that night as police officers, the 2 agents from CPS and Dale's father arrested her parents on the charges specified. "Those 2 will be going away for a very long time, Kurisu-chan," Dale said, "And they will not torture you anymore."
The next day Chris heard news from Mr. Stevens that bribery of any official is a Federal offense- and that her parents would spend part of their sentence in a Federal facility. That set her mind at ease- but what she heard next surprised even her.
"In Arraignment Court," Robert told her, "your parents, because of the heinous nature of the neglect and abuse charges against them, were stripped of their parenting rights for you. This means that any family can now adopt you as their own daughter... and that includes us."
"Dale told me the day we went shopping," Chris said, "that she wanted a sister that she can confide in. My parents didn't have any other children- when I was born, my mother underwent an operation that made her not have more children."
"Then we may have a chance to set things straight in your heart," Robert said, "Since you took us by storm with the tragic nature of your case, me and my wife have considered adopting you as our own daughter... but we wanted to ask one person of this, and it was you."
Flying into his open arms Chris said, "Oh, I want to be with a loving family- any family! PLEASE say that you will let me be your daughter!"
Once he released her from the hug Robert said, "Go spend time with Dale... me and Georgette will talk about this."
Knocking on Dale's door, Chris heard a clear "Come in"... and upon entering saw someone in the room wearing a very lovely costume. Startled that she found someone different, Chris was about to leave- but the young lady said, "Please don't go, Kurisu-chan. Please stay with me."
In a trembling voice filled with fear Chris asked, "Is that you, Dale?"
"Yes it is me, Kurisu-chan," she replied as she fully walked into the light, "I'm sorry I startled you with what I was wearing- but I thought that I wouldn't have anyone visiting me."
With the fear washing away, Chris was curious about the costume she wore... and asked, "Who is that? I've never seen that costume anywhere- even on halloween."
So Dale asked her if she remembered what they talked about during Summer Camp- and once Chris nodded Dale said, "This is a costume replica of an anime character. Her name is Sailor Mars- and she comes from the anime series PrettySoldier SailorMoon."
"I've never seen that beautiful a costume before," Chris said, "Could you tell me more about her?"
Taking Chris' hand in her gloved one Dale asked, "Why don't I do one better... before I tell you about her, why don't I dress you up in the costume of one of her friends." Leading her over to the corner, she showed her the other costume that had great potential... and Chris was so surprised, it was apparent.
"How did you know I loved blue?" she asked her friend, who had a bright smile on her face.
"Well I didn't when I created this costume," Dale replied, "But when I saw you picking out clothes with different shades of blue in them, I just knew that you would be perfect for this costume." She then set about stripping Chris of her clothes and then dressing her in the costume... which ended with a wig colored powder blue being clipped to her head.
Once she was in front of the full-length mirror in Dale's room, Chris was amazed that even she could look this beautiful. "Now," Dale said, "I bet that you would like to get to know who you're dressed as, as well as about the other characters." From the happy nodding of Chris' head, Dale sat her on the edge of the bed and began to tell a tale...
The 2 Sisters decided to pay the Morgans another visit... but when they knocked, a neighbor came out and said, "I'm sorry, but the Morgans were arrested by police and CPS agents for abusing their child and on bribery charges."
"We were wondering when their daughter, Chris, was returning," Sandy asked the neighbor.
"Chris is under foster care with the Stevens' family next door," the woman replied, "And they've been incredibly kind to Chris. In fact, Dale's been a wonderful foster sister to the young woman- and they've been shopping with the help of all of us here in the neighborhood."
"Dale Stevens was one of the girls we met at summer camp," Angela said, "I'm surprised she also moved here with her family."
"Perhaps she was worried about Chris as much as we are," Sandy said, "and she came to help her out in the direct method. But I'm sure we can help her as well- by being there for her when Dale isn't."
"Thank you, ma'am," Angela said as they nodded their heads, she then added when they were away, "I think we should visit the Stevens' family- especially Dale and their foster daughter, Chris Morgan."
Dale had just finished her story when the butler came into her room and said, "There are 2 young women downstairs to see yourself and Miss. Morgan."
"Thank you, Charles," she replied, "We'll change out of these and meet them in the library." Once he left, Dale and Chris began changing out of their outfits and into their clothes.
10 minutes later the young women arrived in the library- and their guests immediately recognized them. "It's nice to see you safe where you should be, Chris," Sandra said, "And to see that you now have someone to confide in."
5 minutes into their conversation, Chris asked the sisters if they remembered what they told her at summer camp. "Yes, Chris," Angela replied, "Why do you ask us?"
"Dale told me that she was also into anime," Chris replied, "and before we came down here, we were dressed in 2 very wonderful costumes- and she told me the story about the series they were from, called PrettySoldier SailorMoon."
"We didn't know you was into Anime, Dale," Sandy said, "And now you've brought a 4th. person into our wonderful world."
"That's true, Sandy," Dale replied, "or should I call you 2 'Anjera-chan' and 'Sandora-chan'?"
"I think we could be known by those names here, Deru-chan," Angela said, "And what is Chris known by?"
"She called me 'Kurisu-chan'," she replied.
"And that is a wonderful name befitting you," Sandy replied.
