Tsukino Barbie & Tada Kaie
There are cosplayers who do some of the most simple of routines... and then there are cosplayers that dress in the best they can make and do the best. Sailor Jamboree is one of the best... and so is the Japanese Cosplay Group URAN. And who should run the best Cosplay Group in Japan, being headline performers in other countries in the world... than this pair.
I heard of this duo on the SJ website, and had to pay theirs a visit. Was I surprised... they do some of the best SM Cosplay in Japan- maybe even the world.
On their website, they have a mix of what's new and old in Japanese television, as cosplayed by them and their members, along with some original cosplays that they create. Not many members of URAN get to leave Japan to attend Anime Conventions in other countries- but Barbie & Kaie get that opportunity every year. During the summer months, they make it tradition to attend Anime eXpo [animeexpo.org] to be with their other friends here in the U.S., the Cosplay Group known as Sailor JAMboree. And from what I see, these comrades have fun in their efforts.
A couple of years ago while at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada; a complete photoshoot was done of Barbie as NeoQueen Serenity from Sailor Moon- Romance. When I saw that photoshoot, I thought nothing could match it... but a 2nd. project did. On May 25, 2001, Barbie put herself back as NeoQueen Serenity- and another URAN member dressed herself as NeoPrincess Serenity (ChibiUsa/Rini). This photoshoot was done at one of Tokyo's Rose Gardens at night... and is so lovely, you've got to go to their website to see it. SailorMoon America was given permission to feature these cosplayers and their friends in galleries of our own design, making this a truly international showcase. We admire these 2, what we consider our cosplay idols, from afar- and hope that they can return to American shores to showcase their cosplay here.
SJ makes an effort to emulate what only the best Cosplayers in the world are... and only the best are in Japan. As we are sworn to repeat what they do, we need to do the same... so one example of our efforts resides in this duo of cosplayers in the Home Country of Sailor Moon.
